You filmed the whole vlog vertical, and now the YouTube thumbnail needs 16:9 and every frame grab is a tall sliver. Cropping loses your face; letterboxing looks like a mistake. Expand the Frame paints in what the camera would have seen on either side: more of the wall, the desk, the street, the sky, matched to the perspective, the light and the grain of the original. The pixels you uploaded are untouched in the middle; the new area grows outward from them. It also goes the other way, turning a wide landscape shot into a tall Story or a square post into a 4:5 grid post without losing a thing to the crop.
The expand-to select lists the ratios you actually post in: 16:9 for thumbnails and banners, 9:16 for Stories and Shorts covers, 1:1 and 4:5 for the grid, 4:3 and 3:2 for a more classic photo shape, and 3:4 and 2:3 for portrait prints and Pins. Pick one and the tool works out where to add canvas, top and bottom or left and right, so the original stays centered and its scale is preserved. New content continues surfaces, textures and background elements; it will not add extra people or invent a second copy of you. Simple, consistent backgrounds expand cleanest. Busy scenes with lots of text or repeating detail take a couple of tries.
Start at Standard for 4 credits and look closely at the seam where the original meets the new area; if a line of the desk or floor bends, run again. Pro is where the finished thumbnail should come from. Once the frame is wide, send it to Thumbnail Maker to lay in the title, or Banner Maker if it is going up top on the channel. If you only need a different crop and nothing new painted in, Reframe is cheaper and faster. Upscale after expanding, not before, so the extra resolution covers the new area too. Your 4 free signup credits cover one Standard expand.

Questions
Which ratio should I use for a YouTube thumbnail versus a Short?
16:9 for the thumbnail, banner and end screen. 9:16 for a Short, Reel or Story cover. If the same grab needs both, expand to 16:9 first and then use Reframe to cut the vertical version from it.
Will it add people or objects that were not there?
No. The new area continues walls, floors, sky and textures from the edges of your photo, but it does not invent extra people, props or a second copy of you. If you want something added, use Add Object on the expanded result.
What happens to the original pixels?
They stay exactly as uploaded, centered in the new canvas at the same scale. Only the added area is generated, so your face, text or product in the middle is never redrawn.
Does it work on screenshots and text-heavy images?
It works, but repeating UI and text are the hardest thing to continue convincingly, so expect a couple of tries and check the seam. A plain-background screenshot or a photo with text only in the middle expands cleanly.
Can I try Extend the Frame without paying?
Yes — every new account starts with 4 free credits, enough for a Standard run of most tools. Plans start at $15 for 1,000 credits a month and packs at $4.99 for 250.
